The historical capital of Gdańsk Pomerania is the largest city of Kashubia. Gdansk is located along the Baltic coast and set on the mouth of the Motława River. It is the country’s principal seaport and a major industrial center. The city is known to be the birthplace of the Solidarity movement under the leadership of Lech Wałęsa, who became the President of Poland in 1990. You can say that the city underwent tumultuous times throughout its history, dating back to the period of Teutonic Knights until the end of the communist rule in 1989. It is located 14 kilometers west of the city center, and is served by domestic and European carriers.
